Beauty Shopping List: February

February Shopping List

Recently I've been hankering after a bright pink blush and NARS Desire is right at the top of my list. I've never been disappointed by a NARS blush so I expect great things from this one. The Tom Ford Black Orchid fragrance has been on my wish list for some time; I'm determined to pick it up this month! It's not for everyone but I think it smells sexy as hell. Another fragrance-related product I need (okay, want) to purchase in February is a Yankee candle in Clean Cotton. I've been through several of these in the past; they make my entire flat smell fresh and lovely. Two 'staple' products on my list are the Clinique Airbrush Concealer and Illamasqua Masquara; I've not tried a new concealer or mascara for a while and after reading good reviews for both of these, they've made their way onto my shopping list.

What's on your beauty shopping list?

June Empties - Products I've Used Up

I want to say 'this month has flown by' but I don't think June has to be honest! I've had so many different things to do this month that the 1st of June seems like a very long time ago. I think I've got a slightly more normal amount of empties this month and didn't manage to get through an awful lot of make up.

Simple Kind to Skin Cleansing Wipes
I bought these because I had a coupon so got them half price. They weren't terrible but I prefer the No7 ones.

No7 Quick Thinking Wipes
I think these are in every empties post! These are definitely my favourite face wipes.

No7 Eye Make Up Remover
This was a decent eye make up remover; it didn't sting or irritate my eyes but it does leave an oily film so if you don't like that, you probably won't like this! I've went back to Boots Botanics for eye make up remover for now but wouldn't rule out buying this again if I had a £5 off voucher.

Clinique Moisture Surge Moisturiser
I love this moisturiser but I refuse to buy the full size because it's £30 or something and I get through it so quickly. It's a very light gel like consistency so it makes a great day cream.

Clinique Liquid Facial Soap
This was the little tube I took on holiday with me so I just finished it up when I got back. I have a full sized bottle of this and it's one of my favourite face washes.

The Body Shop Vitamin C Facial Cleansing Polish
I picked this up alongside the Vitamin C scrub that I love and it's a nice face wash. I'd definitely consider repurchasing in the future.

Origins Vita-Zing Moisturiser
This was my second tube of Vita-Zing and I do like it but I've found recently that I prefer a moisturiser with a lighter texture during the day so I think if I am going to repurchase it won't be until the winter time.

Soap & Glory Fab Pore Facial Peel
This is not what I expected - it's basically just a clay face mask. It leaves my skin feeling squeaky clean but sometimes it reacts with my face wash and burns my skin. I think it's a bit too harsh for me.

Aussie Mega Shampoo
I love the smell of this stuff - it smells like raspberry jelly or something! It does start to build up a bit and irritate my scalp though which is annoying considering it's supposed to be a daily use shampoo. I think the Luscious Long version is better.

Johnson's Baby Shampoo
I use this as a brush cleaner and sometimes as a shampoo (if my scalp is feeling a bit sensitive) and it works well as both! I'll always have a bottle of this around.

Aveda Smooth Infusion Style Prep Smoother
This was just a little sample and it's a nice product but nothing special really. I prefer my Macadamia oil.

Macadamia Natural Oil Rejuvenating Shampoo
I really like this shampoo; this is the little bottle I took on holiday. I probably will repurchase this when I need to replace another product from the range or something.

Boots Expert Dry Shampoo
I like this dry shampoo but recently it seems to have gone up in price quite a bit - I remember when it was 99p. It's not the first one I'd purchase if I had the choice but I will buy it when it's on offer. It doesn't leave any residue in my hair, which I appreciate!

Garnier Intensive 7 Days Soothing Lotion in Calming Honey
I really, really enjoyed using this product. I think Calming Honey is my favourite scent/formula because it doesn't irritate my skin at all. I expect to repurchase.

The Body Shop White Musk Sumptuous Shower Gel & Smooth Satin Body Lotion
I bought these ages ago and have only just used them up. The body lotion isn't particularly moisturising but it's useful for layering and dries quickly. The shower get is just a typical shower gel really. I don't think I'd repurchase unless they were on sale.

The Body Shop Shower Gels in Papaya & Satsuma
I should point out that I didn't use three full bottles of shower gel this month, I took Satsuma on holiday and finished up Papaya at the beginning of the month. I often use shower gels from The Body Shop so I imagine I'll be repurchasing these, especially Satsuma; it smells so fruity!

Clinique High Impact Mascara
This was just a little sample. I used to buy this mascara all the time and it's nice but I've tried better mascaras in the past year/eighteen months.

Dior Addict Lip Polish in 001
The wand on this lip gloss is so weird - it rolls. I didn't like the scent/taste of this so I'll not be repurchasing but the shade is nice and natural and it does smooth out the look of your lips if you struggle with lines.

Boots Conditioning Nail Polish Remover Pads
This is not technically an 'empty' - I just hate these things too much to use them!

Valentino Valentine EDP
This was a Glossybox sample, I believe. It smells quite nice but I don't think I'll ever buy it for myself.

Essie Fill The Gap Base Coat
I'm so sad that this has become too gloopy to use and I will probably repurchase it at some point but I'm trying something else right now (watch out for my haul post tomorrow!)

So...did you use up a lot of products this month?

May Empties

Hello!

I'm getting much better at holding on to the products I use up over the month; I've started keeping a bag on the back of our bedroom door and just putting empty products in there when I'm done. I got through a decent amount of stuff this month although most of these products were things that were already partly used before this month - I didn't go through three full hand sanitizers in four weeks!

Make Up For Ever HD Primer
This was just okay - I won't be repurchasing as I've tried better primers.

NARS Sheer Glow in Santa Fe
I'm glad I used this up as it's much too light for me now! I actually wore it for the last time on the flight. I'll probably pick up another bottle of Sheer Glow at some point but for now I have several other foundations on the go.

Lancome Hypnose Drama sample
I liked this but the wand is an odd shape that I find a little difficult to work with and it's so heavily scented which is off-putting too. I'm unsure if I'll buy the full size.

Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua Compact in B30 sample
I only really used this to review it and I don't imagine I'll ever be spending £39 on the full size.

Clinique Super Balm in Root Beer mini
I've got several of these minis and they're so handy for handbags. They're really moisturising and I think they're pretty underrated in the online beauty community. This shade was my favourite; it's a nude-brown colour but it's pretty sheer on the lips.

17 Mirror Shine in Beehive
This was another of the products in my little lipstick challenge so I've managed to use up two of the five now. I liked this product but I'm not a fan of the packaging/scent so I don't think I'll be hunting down another.

L'Oreal Telescopic in Black
This was a nice mascara which gave me a serious amount of length but I find it to be a bit too clumpy for me so I'm not sure if I'll buy another. I think L'Oreal mascaras seem so expensive for what they are too.

Boots Nail Polish Remover
This is hands down my favourite nail polish remover and it helps that it's super cheap! I've tried others and I keep going back to this one.

3 Bath & Body Works Hand Sanitizers
These are such handy little products - there's usually one in my handbag. I wish we could get Bath & Body Works here in the UK; my bank balance is probably glad there isn't, though.

Seche Vite Top Coat
This is just too gloopy to use now. I hate when that happens because one day it's perfectly usable and then overnight it becomes stringy and thick and a pain in the behind. Gaaah!

No7 Quick Thinking Face Wipes
There will usually be a pack of these in my empties posts because they're my favourite face wipes and I always stock up on them when there are some No7 £5 off vouchers going around.

The Body Shop Vitamin C Microdermabrasion
I can't rave enough about this face scrub! This is probably the sixth or seventh tube I've owned. I started using it about four years ago and I just keep going back to it. I've done a full review of this if you're interested in checking it out.

Boots Cucumber Eye Make Up Remover Gel
This is a cheap and cheerful eye make up remover which feels lovely and soothing. It's not the best if you wear a lot of eye make up or stubborn waterproof mascaras.

Clinique All About Eyes sample
I've been really impressed with the two All About Eyes samples I've tried. I was using the rich version at night and this during the day but since I used up the rich I was using this both day and night. I think if I do repurchase I'll probably go for the rich formula as I've already found a cheaper daytime eye cream that I like and I think I need the thicker formula at night.

Clinique Rinse Off Foaming Cleanser sample
Don't get this in your eyes! It stings so badly. Other than that, this is a pretty nice cleanser which left my skin feeling squeaky clean. I used this every other day to remove my make up.

SKII Skin Signature sample
I got this in the Harrods Glossybox and I have to say it's one the best products I've received in those boxes. It left my skin feeling nicely hydrated without any greasiness. This stuff is way out of my price range right now, sadly!

Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Intensive Daily Moisturiser sample
I used this as a night cream and it's nice for that. It is very thick though.

Clarins Extra-Comfort Toning Lotion sample
This toner is so strange - it feels like something between a gel and a liquid. I just used it because I'm out of toner but I don't think I'll be buying the full size any time soon.

Clarins Hydra-Matte Lotion sample
I used this on days when I was feeling a bit oily and it was okay in my t-zone but not moisturising enough on the rest of my face. If you have oily skin this could be a nice daytime moisturiser in the summer.

Caudalie SOS Thirst Quenching Serum sample
This was another Glossybox sample and it's just okay. I've used the moisturiser from this range and loved it so I was a bit disappointed that I didn't like this. It just made my skin produce too much oil so I could only use it at night. It's very runny so I think I ended up wasting quite a bit of it. The tube was only about 20% full anyway!

Soap & Glory Pulp Friction Scrub
This was a repurchase for me - it's a great scrub and I like that it's foaming as it meant I used a lot less.

Garnier Body Tonic Sugar Scrub
This is my favourite scrub - it leaves my skin feeling and looking so much better than any other scrub ever has. I've got another tube waiting in the wings!

Superdrug Dry Shampoo
My favourite dry shampoo is from Tresemme but I only buy it when it's on offer because I go through it so quickly. This was a stand in product but it worked pretty well and I will probably buy it again if I needed to. It's much nicer than Batiste which leaves my hair looking white and feeling clumpy.

Ayuuri Natural Coconut Body Wash
This was in the last Glossybox I received and it's okay - it's very moisturising which I appreciate. I wasn't a big fan of the coconut scent, though.

The Body Shop Fuzzy Peach Shower Gel
This stuff is a no-brainer - I love the scent!

Nip & Fab Dry Leg Fix
I bought this from Buyapowa a long time ago and wasn't overly impressed. It's just alright and I probably won't repurchase it.

I'm sorry this post is so long, I just don't like mentioning products without forcing my opinion on you! If you want any more information on the products please let me know and I'll link you to a review if I've done one or just let you know more of what I thought in the comments.

A Little Lip Product Challenge

I'm really enjoying actually being able to finish up products. As you may have noticed, I've been gradually downsizing my make up collection so that I'm left with only the products I want to use regularly. Lip products are a huge weakness of mine so in order to keep my lipstick spending under control I've set myself a little challenge.

I've picked out five lipsticks and glosses that are on their way out and I'm not allowed to buy another lip product until I've used these five up. They are:

Revlon Lip Butter in Fig Jam
I love this! I've been using it to death and I'm kind of annoyed that it's not available here but I'm sure I'll manage to get my hands on this if I want to repurchase.

Estee Lauder Pure Color Gloss in Electric Cherry
This gloss smells delicious and the texture is lovely; it's not sticky at all. It leaves a sheer hint of cherry red on the lips. I've got about 1/5 left.

Dior Lip Polish in Radiance Expert (?)
I'm not 100% sure that this is the shade name as it doesn't say on the packaging. This is the oddest lip gloss I've never used because of  the unusual rolling applicator. It's fun to apply but it doesn't have a great scent so I'll be pleased when I've used it up. I've got around 1/3 left.

17 Mirror Shine in Beehive
I'm not typically a fan of 17 products but I caved and bought three mirror shines back before Christmas because I kept hearing about this shade in particular. I've enjoyed using it but I don't like the packaging and wish it had a less plastic-esque scent.

Clinique Superbalm in Root Beer
This little thing has been 'almost finished' for the longest time! I like the Superbalms from Clinique and have several other mini ones from a set which are handy for popping into my bag. They are really moisturising, as the name would suggest. I think they're one of those sort of 'under-hyped' products, actually.

Watch out for some of these in my May empties post in a few weeks! I hope I can control the urge to buy a new lipstick at duty free when going on holiday...expect a Wishlist Wednesday post full of lip products!

April Empties: Skincare & Make Up

I got through a crazy amount of products this month so this is the first of two empties posts. I finally started using up all the samples I've accumulated over the past six months or so! I'm going to try and keep these posts as short as possible, I promise.

Boots Skin Tonic in Damask Rose
I like the way toners with rosewater work on my skin. I don't think this particular toner is available any more but I think I'm going to pick up the Botanics version soon.

Clarins Extra Firming Day and Night creams
These were surprisingly good. I complained a lot about receiving anti-ageing products in my Glossybox but I did enjoy using these. I won't be repurchasing them right now but I will keep them in mind when I need to use these sorts of products regularly.

Clarins Gentle Foaming cleanser
This was only a small sample so it's difficult to say how much I like it. It was okay but I don't think it was anything special.

Clarins HydraQuench lotion
This would be a great moisturiser for anyone who has dehydrated skin. I found that it was a bit greasy on my t-zone, though.

Clarins HydraQuench Intensive serum
This product feels very strange. It's much runnier than a typical serum and leaves an odd dry feeling on my hands afterwards. I did like how it made my skin feel, though.

Clinique All About Eyes Rich eye cream
This little sample pot lasted me about three months. I'm using a sample pot of the original All About Eyes right now but I think this is the one I'll repurchase as the thicker texture means that I only use a tiny amount each time.

Clinique Moisture Surge moisturiser
I enjoyed using this lightweight moisturiser. I've got another sample pot which I'm excited to use! I would consider buying the full sized product.

Clinique Even Better Clinical Dark Spot Corrector serum
I wasn't impressed with this product. It was quite expensive but I had some dark spots on my chin which I wanted to get rid of so I decided to invest. Unfortunately it ended up giving me more spots which kind of defeated the purpose! I did notice some lightening but it wasn't enough to make me repurchase.

Estee Lauder Idealist serum
This product made my skin feel much smoother but after a couple of weeks' use I didn't notice any lasting effects.

No7 Quick Thinking wipes
These are my all time favourite face wipes. I always pick up a pack or two when I have the £5 off No7 vouchers.

Sanctuary 5 Minute Thermal Detox mask
This is a really nice thermal mask; the colour is a bit terrifying but I do feel that it helps keep my skin clear without drying it out. I'd consider buying this again but I think I want to try something different next.

Bobbi Brown Everything mascara
This was a pretty average mascara in my opinion. It's not something I'll be buying again.

Elemis Loving Lips Quenching lip balm
I picked this up on a whim and I was quite pleased with it. I don't know if I'd repurchase it but it's a light mint-scented balm which is surprisingly moisturising.

Jack Black Black Tea and Blackberry lip balm
I was excited to try this product but I've not been overly impressed. It kind of just feels like a thicker version of Vaseline and I don't think it's very nourishing. It just sort of sits on top of my lips. It does smell nice, though.

NARS Pure Radiant tinted moisturiser in St Moritz
This is just a small sample but I like the product. I'm considering purchasing a full sized tube for my holiday but I'm unsure of which shade to go for. It smells lovely.

Revlon Grow Luscious mascara
I reviewed this quite recently and I have mixed feelings about it. It's not something I'd repurchase.

Too Faced Shadow Insurance eye primer
I really enjoyed using this product and this little tube lasted me over 18 months. I'm trying a new primer now but I'd highly recommend this to anyone who finds Urban Decay's primer potion to be a bit too gloopy.

Phew! Watch out for part two tomorrow!

Clinique High Impact Mascara

I remember when I started uni (almost four years ago now...time has flown!) and this was my favourite mascara. I used to buy at it the airport every time I flew home. For the past three years I've been trying other mascaras but I recently got this in a gift with purchase and decided to see how it compared with everything else I've been trying since I last owned it.

The wand is fairly standard and easy to use. I don't struggle with clumps and find the wand picks up the right amount of product. This is definitely a defining and lengthening mascara for me. It doesn't give the same amount of volume as BeneFit They're Real despite being marketed as a thickening mascara. That doesn't mean that I don't like it though! It's a great every day mascara for me. I don't experience any flaking or smudging with this mascara which is probably why I stuck with it for so long.

I'd recommend Clinique's High Impact for anyone with reasonably thick lashes who just wants some length and definition. It is priced at £16 and is available in Black and Black/Brown (link)

This Week's Make Up Bag

I got out of the habit of posting my weekly make up bags a while back. It was because I'd sort of given up having a make up bag. I need to start some serious exam revision this week so I'm going back to having a little stash of make up to choose from in the mornings rather than several boxes full. I'm trying out some new things and trying to use some old favourites. I've stuck to warmer shades this week.

MUA BB Cream (Medium) & Primer - I'm so impressed with both these products so far. I need to test them out a little longer before posting reviews but hopefully my opinion won't change!

Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer in Soft Beige - my current concealer of choice, I reviewed it recently if you fancy scrolling down.

Chanel Perfection Lumiere sample - I just want to use this up, really.

NARS Taj Mahal - I love this blush but I don't use it often because it takes a bit of effort to make sure I don't end up looking like a clown. I will try to do a Face of the Day post when wearing this because I had someone ask me to recently.

MAC Soft & Gentle MSF - I've been neglecting this recently so I've dug it out again. It makes a really pretty eyeshadow too.

MAC Peaches - One of my all time favourite blushes!

Clarins Ever Matte Face Powder - This has replaced my MSF Natural as my every day powder. It's much lighter but still offers a little coverage. I'm quite heavy handed with it but it never looks cakey and it does control oil pretty well.

Urban Decay Naked Palette - Do I need to explain this one? This is another product I've been neglecting a lot so I'm hoping to get back into using it more often.

Bobbi Brown Long Wear Gel Liner in Black Ink - I've had this for a really long time and it's still as creamy as when I first bought it. I do want to use it up soon-ish, though.

Too Faced Shadow Insurance - This is another product I've had for such a long time. It's running out right now so hopefully in a few weeks I'll be able to try a new eyeshadow primer. This is my favourite right now but I've not tried the NARS base, yet!

Clinique High Impact Mascara - I got this little sample in a gift with purchase and since I'm on a bit of a mascara rampage right now, I thought it wouldn't do any harm to try another. I've bought this in full size a few times in the past but I've not used it in about two years.

MAC Teddy Eye Kohl - Okay, so I only own this because my cat is called Teddy and I can't resist anything with his name...but I do like the colour. I don't find the staying power to be too great, though.

Smashbox Brow Tech in Soft Brown/Taupe - I used this for my brows all the time until last summer when I stopped for some reason. It's a really nice brow product for natural, groomed looking brows.

MUA Love Hearts Lip Balm in Great Lips - This is another new product to me. It's a nude shade and smells delicious.

MUA Lipstick in Shade 16 Nectar - I can't wait to try this out - the orange/peach shade is right up my street.

17 Mirror Shine in Beehive - This is one of my most loved lipsticks; it's subtle and glossy.

Jack Black Lip Balm - This didn't live up to the hype for me at all. It's just okay so I'm working on using it up.

Clinique Super Balm in Rootbeer - This is on it's last legs right now so I'm hoping to finish it up this week.

Clarins Instant Light Lip Perfector in 02 - I always seem to have this in my make up bag, it's one of my favourite make up products, ever.

A Little Weekend Make Up Bag

I went to see a friend on Saturday night and tried very hard to restrain myself make up-wise! It turns out that even though she finds it frightening that I can name eye shadow shades just by looking at them, she isn't too terrified by my make up obsession. I even told her about this little blog (hello if you're reading, you know who you are!)

Anyway, here's what I settled on:

Lips:
MAC Lip Conditioner
Estee Lauder Pure Color gloss in Electric Cherry
17 Mirror Shine lipstick in Beehive
(check out how used the gloss and lipstick are! I'm getting much better at using up products...)

Eyes:
L'Oreal Telescopic mascara
Maybelline Color Tattoo in Bad to the Bronze
Collection2000 Lasting Perfection concealer
(I kind of regret not bringing an eye base as the Color Tattoo did crease a bit)

Face:
BeneFit Watts Up! highlighter
MAC Warm Soul mineralize blush
Real Techniques Contour brush (for the blush)
Clinique Even Better foundation in 05 Neutral
Clarins Ever Matte face powder in 02 Transparent Medium

So that's it! To be honest, I wasn't 100% happy with the products I chose but since I only had to use them together once, it was fine!

Clinique All About Eyes Rich

I've owned this little sample sized pot of Clinique's All About Eyes Rich for a wee while now and I've been using it every night before bed. I didn't bother too much about eye creams because I didn't think I needed to but I started noticing that my under eye concealer wasn't going on very smoothly any more so I decided to do something about it.

I think this product really works! It would be too heavy for me to use in the mornings as I think it would make my concealer just slide off but when I have it on overnight to work its magic, my under eye area looks lots better in the morning.

The consistency is very thick (I saw someone describe it as 'a paste' earlier this week) so you only need a little bit. It does take a little while to sink into the skin but that doesn't bother me at night time. As I said, I think it would be too heavy for during the day unless the skin under your eyes is really, really dry.

All in all, I'm really pleased with this little pot of wonder. When I run out, I can see myself purchasing the full size. It's £23 for 15ml which may sound expensive but I'd expect it to last for ages! I would prefer if this was in a tube rather than a little pot, though.

Do you use an eye cream? Let me know what your favourites are!

FOTD: MAC Chatterbox & Maybelline Tough As Taupe

I wore this to the library because I wanted to try out Chatterbox before wearing it out and about. Plus, the library is so dull, this lipstick totally brightened my day! Please ignore my eyebrows (euuuugh! I will pluck them soon, I promise...) and the fact nothing looks perfect - I did this in about ten minutes because I was so keen to get to the library (hmm.)

Products Used:
Clarins Beauty Flash Balm
Clinique Even Better Foundation in 05
Collection 2000 Lasting Perfection Concealer in Medium 3
Clarins Ever Matte Face Powder in 02 Transparent Medium
Dior Glowing Colour Blush in Strawberry Sorbet
MUA Clear Mascara (as brow gel, not that you'd be able to tell!)
Too Faced Shadow Insurance
Maybelline Color Tattoo in Tough As Taupe
Milani Liquf'Eye liner in Black
Bobbi Brown Everything Mascara
Jack Black Lip Balm in Black Tea and Blackberry
MAC Chatterbox

(Angry weird pose!)

I think I like Chatterbox. I'm not usually into pinks, especially bright pinks but this lipstick may have changed my mind. Tough As Taupe was pretty difficult to work with in comparison to the more shimmery shades from the Color Tattoo line so I'm not entirely sure if I love it or not.

Another Little Haul: Clinique, MAC & Cheapsmells

I heard about Clinique's latest gift with purchase offer and I knew that Debenhams were offering 500 extra points on purchases over £40 so I popped into the store to pick up a couple of things I've been wanting to try. I'm not sure why I've never tried one of their Chubby Sticks before; they're the kind of lip products I usually go for. I went for the shade Mega Melon because it looked like a nice summer shade. After trying their Turnaround serum and thinking it was okay, I wanted to try their Even Better Clinical one because I thought it would work better for me. I have a few dark spots on my chin from spots so I'm hoping this can lighten them.

I got an amazing bag of free products to try - it's why I'm posting this haul! The offer ends this Saturday (the 25th) so I wanted to make sure you could still get it if you're interested. The sales assistant did give me a little sample of the Even Better foundation in shade 05 Neutral and a sample size of my favourite Liquid Facial Soap. She switched out the Dramatically Different Moisturising Lotion for a second tub of the Moisture Surge as she said that would work better for my skin right now. Here's a quick run down of what comes in the gift:

Rinse Off Foaming Cleanser - 50ml
Dramatically Different Moisturising Lotion - 30ml
Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief - 15ml
All About Eyes - 7ml
High Impact Mascara - 3.5ml
Four Colour Lip Palette - 4g

I'm not super keen on the lip palette but I'm looking forward to trying out all the skincare products and High Impact is one of my all time favourite mascaras so I was pleased to receive that.

I posted about two of the products I bought from Cheapsmells recently but I had also ordered this, it just took a while longer to arrive. Gemma and Emma both recommended this product recently and it seemed like a good buy since it was so cheap. I believe I paid around £10 for this 60ml bottle. It's called  No. 4711 and it's basically a cologne. Emma said it helps her relieve headaches when travelling. Boyfriend hates the smell of it! I quite like it though, it's very light and fresh.

I popped into MAC to get a lipstick for a friend and accidentally (yeah, right!) bought MAC Blankety. It's been on my wish list for a while and I hardly ever go into the MAC store so it was a total impulse buy but one I think I'll enjoy.

I'd like to say this is the last bit of shopping I'll do for a while but...who am I trying to kid!?
