Dolce & Gabbana The One: A Signature Scent?

This fragrance could not be more aptly named. It's definitely 'The One' for me and has been for about four years now. I don't post about perfumes a lot partly because I'm rubbish at describing them and partly because I don't try many new ones. This bottle was a gift from a lovely friend and is my fourth, but almost certainly not my last.

You already know this is going to be a sappy post about a perfume, don't you?

Well, it all started after Christmas four years ago. I was flying back to Glasgow and picked up a bottle of The One at the airport because I kind of liked the scent. I don't typically buy expensive perfumes for myself; I tend to ask for them as Christmas/birthday gifts, so it was an impulse buy. An excellent impulse buy.

According to D&G: 'The fragrance features top notes of mandarin and peach that leads into a heart of jasmine and ends with a base of vanilla, amber and musk. The One for Her is a warm, oriental floral with modern sensuality. It's a fragrance with a strong personality and a contrasting golden sweetness. Created for the ultimate diva, The One is at once tempting, modern and glamorous, embracing a touch of classicism.'

To me it just smells good. I associate the scent with so many happy memories; it never fails to make me smile.

The One EDP retails for between £38 and £63.

Do you have a signature scent you just can't be without? Tell me about it!

Muelhens No. 4711 Cologne Splash

I posted recently about one of the 'budget' fragrances I wear alongside the one higher end perfume on a regular basis. I try to save my more expensive perfumes for days when I have something more important to do so this cologne splash from Muelhens is a great everyday fragrance for me.

I first heard about this product from Gemsmaquillage and couldn't believe how cheap it was. I have the 90ml bottle which retails at around £14.50 (I paid £11.50 from Cheapsmells - here). I wasn't expecting much, to be honest, but I've been pleasantly surprised. It is described as a 'refreshing citrus-based fragrance that warms to a light floral, woody base' on Cheapsmells and I'd agree with that. It's not what I'd usually go for but I really
appreciate the refreshing element of this when I'm having a bad day!

The only real downside with No. 4711 is that it doesn't last a terribly long time so you do need to reapply it regularly but I expected that. I can't see myself using this an awful lot in the winter months but right now I'm really enjoying it.

Have you got any budget perfume recommendations?

Soap & Glory Original Pink Perfume

I'm going to put this out there; I'm terrible at describing scents! I do wear perfume, though, so I thought it was about time I started reviewing it. I try to only have one 'expensive' perfume on the go at any one time so I picked this Soap & Glory Original Pink as a cheaper option. The reason I wanted to review this first is because I don't think there are many people out there who don't know that typical Soap & Glory scent; this is essentially what this smells like.

Whilst I like the Soap & Glory scent (rose and bergamot, apparently!) I find the body butter scent lasts far too long on my skin and it becomes a bit cloying to me. The fragrance is a nice alternative because it's a bit lighter.. The wear time is only a couple of hours with this perfume, which might be frustrating for some but I happily chuck it in my bag to reapply on the go because I'm not worried about the bottle getting damaged.

Overall I think it's a nice product but it's not something I'd rush out to repurchase because there are a few other 'cheaper' perfumes I enjoy more than this one. If you like the Soap & Glory scent, this is probably a must have! It is priced at £16.50 for 50ml from Boots or the Soap & Glory website.

PS - Sorry I've been a bit absent for the last week. Moving was more difficult than I anticipated and I wasn't near a laptop for a week!

Burberry's New Fragrance - "Body"

A couple of weeks ago, FleurdeForce posted about Burberry giving away samples of their new fragrance via their Facebook page. She seemed to think the samples were 30ml (aka pretty much full size!) so I decided it wouldn't do any harm to fill in my details and see if I received anything.

A small white box arrived last week and inside was a 4.5ml sample of Body, the new fragrance from Burberry.

So, what do I think of it?

Well, my boyfriend told me it smelt like grannies! I have to admit that upon first snuff, it does smell a bit too mature for my liking. Burberry describe this scent as "very British and the most sensual and feminine fragrance we have ever worked on. It's sophisticated, it's modern and it's delicate. We wanted it to beĆ”light and feminine but also distinctive - something that appeals to women regardless of their age." So that probably explains why I think its a bit more appropriate for an older lady.

However, I've worn this a few times now and whilst I wouldn't say I love it, the mature aspects of the scent do die down throughout the day. I like it much more after I've been wearing it for an hour or so. I think I would wear this as lot if I worked in an office or had a 'sensible' job. It does wear for a very long time (I would say up to 8 hours) which I like.

This is available from anywhere which stocks Burberry fragrances. I found it at Debenhams starting at £45 for 35ml.

Will you be giving this a sniff?
